Hooking Up a Cable-Ready Analog Television
There are several ways to connect a TV to our cable system. The type of equipment you have will determine your setup.
Things you need:
- Cable-ready TV and owner's manual
- Original remote control unit
- Coaxial cable with "F" connectors at each end (This is a common type of cable you may already have; if you do not have one, you can find a cable hookup kit at a university bookstore, or home electronics retailer.)
What to do:
- Plug your TV into an electrical outlet.
- Connect one end of the coaxial cable to the cable outlet on the wall plate.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the jack on the back of your TV.
- Turn on your TV and set it to CATV mode. Some televisions do this automatically through an onscreen programming menu. Consult your television owner's manual.
- You should see a clear picture. If not check our troubleshooting guide for helpful tips.
- Consult the channel lineup for specific channel listings.
Hooking Up a Digital Television
There are several ways to connect a digital television to our system. The type of equipment you have will determine your setup.
Things you need:
- Digital TV and owner's manual
- Original remote control unit
- Coaxial cable with "F" connectors at each end (This is a common type of cable you may already have; if you do not have one, you can find a cable hookup kit at a university bookstore, or home electronics retailer.)
- Depending on the type of television two short lengths of coax and a “splitter” may be required. Consult owner’s manual.
What to do:
- Plug your TV into an electrical outlet.
- Connect one end of the coaxial cable to the cable outlet on the wall plate.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the jack on the back of your TV. If your television has “F” fittings for both Antenna and Cable a splitter must be connected to the cable coming from the wall plate. Then connect one of the splitter outputs to the “Antenna” connector on your TV and the other splitter output to the “Cable” connector.
- Turn on your TV and follow the instructions in your owner’s manual or on-screen guide for channel set-up.
Select the option that searches for channels on cable and antenna.
This may require that you run the channel programming twice. The broadcast channels offering some HD are available as if they were coming in on an antenna. they will be found on 2.1, 4.1, 4.2, 4.4, 5.1, 5.2, 7.1, 7.2, an 7.3.
You may also find digital channels at 100.1 - 100.6 - these are channels being tested and are in standard definition (SD) only.
- You should see a clear picture. If not check our troubleshooting guide for helpful tips.
- Consult the channel lineup for specific channel listings.
